And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

The desires and expectations of most people rarely become reality due to negligence of the basic requirements for accomplishment. The secret of seeing your desires and expectations come to pass resides in your ability to speak.

The most difficult stage in human development is the period between birth and when a child begins to speak. At this stage, the only means of communication for the child is crying, which can be misleading. The mother of such crying child, with all her experience, might present food to the child whereas he needs something totally different. Ecclesiastes 10:16 says, Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning! Babblers don't get the right attention because of their inability to speak coherently.

In the beginning, God was not satisfied with the heaven and earth that He created. After taking a close look, God began to speak into existence things that were lacking in the initial creation. Hebrews 11:3 says: Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. The process was simple. God observed and noticed the unwanted; so He spoke to create what he desired. Then He saw, and found what He saw to be good. In the beginning, the heaven and earth were without form and void. At the end, however, in Genesis 12:3 ...God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good....

The reason for the difference between where you are and where God wants you to be is that you have not spoken. Learn from God to observe, then speak (in prayer and confession) and you will see your desires become reality.

Prayer/Action

* Pray for divine ability to always speak faith filled words.

* Declare that starting from today and beyond every good thing you speak will come to pass.

* Declare over the things that you are trusting God for in your life.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: John 8:30-36  30 As he spake these words, many believed on him. 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

MORE LESSON: 1 Corinthians 10:32 John 14:6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

The experimental knowledge of the truth is in its power to deliver. No man experiences truth and stays bound; rather it brings freedom, indeed. That was Jesus' description of the efficacy of truth. Truly, the condition of every sinner is that of a captive or a slave to sin. A sinner is one who serves and obeys the dictates of an evil heart and the prompting of an evil nature. The effect of the truth is to break the hard bondage to sin and to set the sinner free. Cowper, the great author says, He is the free man whom the truth makes free, and all are slaves beside. Free and available as the truth is, it must be sought for before it is found.

Jesus says, And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free: John 8:32, suggesting the need for knowledge and learning, but knowledge is not found without a search. This was why David said, Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation.... Psalm 25:5. Truth must be sought for daily and sincerely. The promise of God has also gone ahead of every seeker, And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart: Jeremiah 29:13. The truth for living is in God and all who seek it will find it.

You must make up your mind today to seek and walk in the truth. It is the only force that can save and deliver you from captivity. Jesus Himself says, ...I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me: John 14:6. This is why truth is a deliverer, because Jesus Himself is the truth. If you therefore desire the knowledge of truth, all you need is to seek to know Jesus more. The more of Jesus you know the more truth you have and the freer you become from all satanic entanglements.

Prayer/Action

* Ask God for the Spirit of truth to come upon you.

* Pray against the Spirit of ignorance.

* Declare that every form of lies that have held you bond be broken by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 2:2 says; And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. This verse is being fulfilled today because we are in the last days that will usher in the rapture of the saints and the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. God expects us, as His children, to do all it takes for the prophecy above to be fulfilled. Salvation experience that happens when we surrender our lives to God and accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour does not just make us citizens of Heaven but recruits us into the business of exalting God on the earth.

In Matthew 5:14,16, Jesus says: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid...Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. The questions for each of us as we ponder on these scriptures are: Since you gave your life to Christ, how have you been contributing to exalting the Lord's house on earth? What activities has the Lord led you to in order to establish His Kingdom in men's lives here on earth?

It is saddening that instead of spending time to intercede for God's work on earth, some of us are among those who tear it down by gossiping about God's servants and rumour mongering about God's people. The activities God expects you to be involved in to exalt His Kingdom on earth include: evangelism (Matthew 28:19-20) praying (Ephesians.6:18-19) giving, (Luke 6:38) using diverse God-given gifts as listed in Romans 12:6-8 and Ephesians 4:10-13.

May the prophetic scripture given in Isaiah 2:2 be fulfilled through you today and always. This is possible as you get involved in ushering in the Second Coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Prayer/Action

* Thank God for making you to be part of his endtime armies.

* Declare that grace will be multiple unto you ask you continue on the kingdom mandate.

* Pray for mercy if you have not been involved in Heaven's mandate.

Same Blood, One Family

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

The Church is the family of God with God as the Father, Jesus the first born and all believers are siblings, children of God. We are connected in a blood relationship and that is the blood of Jesus. It is by the blood of Jesus that we are born into God's family and we all have the blood running in our veins. John 1:12 says, …as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. This is the reason why, though physically we are of different tongues and backgrounds, we are of same blood and one family in Jesus Christ. It is therefore common to have tribalism or racism in the church. As far as God is concerned, whether we are white, black, red, tall, short, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, we are one and we must do everything to promote the unity. The blood of Jesus is a strong tie that unites us and if you are truly born again there would be no segregation in church. The reason why issues like this show up sometimes is because the people have an identity problem as they don't know who they are in Christ Jesus.

Also, because we are one family in Jesus, forgiveness should not be difficult for us. Malice should not even be mentioned in our midst. Just as you cannot 'de-sister or de-brother' your siblings no matter how much they offend you, so also you cannot disown your Christian brother or sister. No matter what you do, your sister or brother will always be your sibling because you are connected by a blood tie. So it is in the Christendom.

Furthermore, as children of God, we carry God's DNA. It is the component that puts you in the God-class. This implies that you look and behave like God. It therefore means that one cannot claim to be like God and possess characteristics that are anti God. As true children of God, we must behave like our Father. Whatever cannot happen to God should not happen to us and we should not do whatever God will not do.

In our natural families, hierarchy and respect are natural components, so also it is in the family of God, And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues: I Cor. 12:28. God expects us to obey and honour those that He has placed over us (I Peter 2:17). Recognise that you are a member of God's family and do everything within your ability to ensure the peace, unity and smooth running of this great family.

Prayer/Action

* Thank God for the blood of Jesus Christ.

* Decree and declare that you have access to the inheritance and benefits of belonging to the family of God.

* Pray for authentic unity in the family of God - the body of Christ.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Proverbs 22:6 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

MORE LESSON: Psalm 127:3-5 3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

One of the things that are missing in the Christian faith that make it weak, especially when it is confronted by opposition is the lack of thorough education early in life. There is this laxity among Christian parents that makes them think it is too early to begin to train their child in the things of God. For instance, some parents come to family altar alone and they allow their young child to keep sleeping, giving the excuse that the he is too young to be awake at that time. However, this is contrary to God's principle of raising children. Prov. 22:6 says,

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. If we ignore God's counsel in doing anything, then we cannot blame Him when things go wrong.

It is quite unfortunate that other religions of the world copy godly principles and follow them to the letter while the children of light are complacent about it. For instance, in Islam, they begin to teach their children the Quran at a very tender age and one major instruction has to do with living and dying for what they believe. I thought the only thing that these small children are sent to do in the quranic school is to learn the Quran. But a young man told to me that he learnt early in life at the small quaranic school, to defend, fight, live and die for Islam at any cost. By the time he was getting to the secondary school he had heard that doctrine so well that he counted it a normal thing to accept to die if that is what it will cost to defend Islam. So if anyone declares a jihad, it would not take anything to find volunteers. It does not need a special appeal for people to carry explosives and commit suicide; that is to become what they call suicide bombers. It is so easy finding volunteers any time a call is made because everybody is taught, beginning from childhood, not only the basics of the Quran and Islam but also the fact that everyone who is a Muslim must live and die for the sake of Islam.

As Christian parents, we must arise to our responsibilities knowing that we would give account of the children in our custody. If God who owns them has given an instruction on how to raise them, then we must adhere to it. Arise today and bring your children up in the way of the Lord.

Prayer/Action

* Thank God for making you a custodian of His children and for the privilege to raise them.

* Ask for grace and wisdom to train your children - both biological and spiritual - in the way of the Lord.

* Rebuke every plan and device of the enemy concerning your children.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: The Lion of the tribe of Judah, roar every satanic beast of December to surrender everywhere I go this month, in the precious name of Jesus.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: II Timothy 2:15-22 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

MORE LESSON: I Timothy 6:11 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Often, we get into trouble or make irreparable mistakes in life just because we do not know how to handle our challenges. Experience is not what happens to you in life, but how you handle issues. Exposed to evil or temptation and doing nothing about it makes children of God live a life of shame and reproach even though God has promised us grace and glory.

Our text today tells us how to cope with temptations and how to become the kind of disciples Jesus wants us to be. Jn.15:14 says, Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Obedience is the central issue when it comes to true Christianity. Salvation is a free gift from God but you won't grow much unless you take definite steps of obedience. There are so many things to flee from in the Scripture if we will remain God's friends:

I Cor. 6:18, Flee fornication....

I Cor. 10:14, ...flee from idolatry.

II Tim. 2:22, Flee also youthful lusts.

Matt.3:7 ...flee from the wrath to come....

Being complacent about what can destroy us is not courage, but carelessness. Running away or doing everything possible to escape from evil, danger or temptation is the wisest thing to do. We must know that our spiritual life is one of motion. So many times, God tells us to do one thing or the other, and unless we are swift in response to His instructions, we fail even when we are not supposed to.

Can you anticipate any temptation that might hit you today? How will you handle it? In Matt. 26:41, Jesus said, Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.... because with every temptation, there is a way of escape, There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it: I Cor. 10:13. You must be guided 24/7. The tempter is never tired at all; when you hear his roar, flee. God will keep you in the hour of temptation, in Jesus' name (Rev. 3:10).

Prayer/Action

* Thank God for not allowing you to be tempted beyond your capacity.

* Ask for grace to withstand every temptation that comes your way.

* Receive wisdom to overcome every temptation that comes your way.

From Darkness to Light

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Luke 24:30-35 30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

MORE LESSON: Acts 9:18-19 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. 19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

Spiritually, darkness has been the greatest challenge on earth. No wonder Jesus came as the light of the world. The Bible says the whole world lies in darkness and until Christians begin to shine their Jesus-given light, there is no hope for the world. However, no matter the intensity of light, if the eyes of people are not opened, the light is useless. As it is that people can remain in darkness no matter how wide open their eyes are if there is no light, people can also remain in darkness not because they don't have eyes; but because their eyes are not opened.

The Kingdom of God is the Kingdom of light, so everyone in it must have the power of sight. Flip Wilson said: “What you see is what you get”. Being able to see into the spiritual realm has a lot of advantages. One day God wanted to commission Jeremiah into ministry and one of the things he wanted to be sure the prophet had is the power of sight. He said, Jeremiah, what seest thou: Jer 1: 11, and until God was sure Jeremiah could see correctly, He did not perform His Word. God wants all His children to be seers. Blindness pegs a man's destiny and makes him live a beggarly life. A man with open eyes has access to divine secrets and will live a prosperous life.

Luke 24:31 says: And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. The evidence that a man's eye is opened is that he is able to see the Lord. When you see and know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and see God at work everyday, then your eyes are opened. Before a man can see correctly his heart must be inflamed like the disciples that Jesus talked with on the way; their hearts burned within them and their eyes were opened. Beloved, until you begin to hear the voice of Jesus and read His Word, your eye s of understanding remain closed. But when your heart burns, then your eyes will begin to see. What are indications that a man is not seeing correctly or does not see? This happens when:

i. he cannot see God's provision and plan for his life,

ii. a man does not know what to do always,

iii. a man's pathway in life is not even or is awkward all the time,

iv. one does not see beauty, good, success and victory, but evil all of the time.

v. a man does not know his true state by thinking he is what he is not.

But when a man sits, talks, eats with Jesus, his eyes will definitely open (vs. 30-31). May your eyes of understanding be opened, and may you begin to see all that is necessary for your progress, in Jesus’ mighty name.

Prayer/Action

* Ask God to open your eyes to see.

* Pray that your spiritual senses and your level of discernment, be heightened.

* Rebuke every form of darkness in and around your life, destiny and family.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: As it is written, “Say to the righteous it shall be well with them”; so is it with me this day, in the mighty name of Jesus.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Ephesians 4:31-32 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

MORE LESSON: Colossians 3:12–15 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

There are many people who carry offences and bitterness around. A believer may be outwardly serving diligently and passionately and it looks as if everything is alright. However, God who searches the inward parts looks inside his heart and He is turned off. Unforgiveness turns God off a life and destiny. The reason many people do not experience miracles, lifting and breakthrough is because they abhor unforgiveness in their hearts. Until there is forgiveness, there is no answered prayer. Mark 11: 24 -25 says, Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive.... Scripture directly links answered prayers to forgiving people that have wronged us. Unforgiveness kills; many times people die suddenly and we start asking God questions. Men can only see the outside; only God sees the inside. A lot of people carry subtle killers like unforgiveness, bitterness, pride and resentment on the inside and until its result materialises, we may not know. This doesn't imply that everyone who dies suddenly carries such. The truth however is that many kill themselves and then people question God. Why give yourselves high blood pressure and mental problems because someone offended you? Unforgiveness is the reason many people do not experience break-throughs but only break-downs.

There are people in the Church who cannot speak to the person sitting next to them because of offence. Some hate others so badly that they don't look the direction of the person anymore. They are not free to look around; you can't be so offended by a person that you subject yourself to suffering. It is cheaper to forgive and live in peace and health.

In Matthew 5:23–24, Jesus admonished that if you have anything to offer to God and you know that there is someone that you have offended or has offended you, go and make peace with the person before you present that offering. We must personally make the choice to go out to forgive and ask for forgiveness. Never find it difficult to apologise and ask for forgiveness. It is unavoidable to offend and be offended while relating with people; mutual forgiveness is the way out. Living in unforgiveness is like swallowing poison; a person cannot drink poison and expect someone else to die in his stead. One can't carry bitterness, anger, unforgiveness and expect the object of his anger to be affected. We only affect ourselves with our unforgiveness; the other person is bouncing around joyfully. This is why you should set yourself free and let it go by forgiving. Receive today the grace to forgive.

Prayer/Action

* Reflect for the next few minutes: if you are still holding unto any negative event or keeping malice with anyone - let them go now. release them.

* Ask the Lord to show you mercy if you have erred in any area.

* Pray that God will flood your heart and life with His peace that passes understanding.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: By divine insurance of the blood of Jesus, I declare this December safe on every side, in the powerful name of Jesus.

32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

You cannot go to play at the river and then complain when someone splashes water on you. It is impossible to play at the river and not get splashed with water. In relating with people in any community, one of the things that we cannot avoid is being offended. Whether at home, school, work or church, people will do things that we do not like. The reason is that everybody cannot behave the same way in a community. Offences result from differences in behaviour. Has someone ever done things and you wonder how on earth anyone could behave like that? Well, the reason is because he is not you; if he were you, he would never behave like that. People are different and so they will behave differently.

The Lord Jesus Himself in Luke 17:1, said unto His disciples, ...It is impossible but that offences will come.... He realized that there will always be people who will offend us. Therefore our quest is not to look for a place where we will not be offended but to seek to live above offences. Do you know that one cannot be offended until he decides to take offence? You can refuse to take offence when it is offered to you. The New Living Translation of Colossians 3:13 says, Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

We must learn to make allowance for people around us. Give room to people when they do things that you do not like. Probably you like quietness while he likes noise and turbulence wherever he is; you have to learn how to make room now that both of you are roommates or else you will fight every day. Life is about recognising people for who they are and learning to overlook their faults.

Everyone loves to hear that he is a rare gem who is unique and uncommon in every way. It is pleasing to know that no other person in the whole earth has the same fingerprints as yours; you are specially and wonderfully made. The other side of this pleasant news is that no one else is like you so they will not behave like you. Therefore, grow up out of complaining that a person behaved in such and such a way. If you insist on relating with only people that are like you then you will relate only with yourself.

On the other hand, there are people who delight in causing offence and then claim, 'That is who I am; you must learn to live with me.' The truth is that no one causes offence anyhow and goes scot-free. People around may be spiritually mature enough to overlook it but the one involved will suffer the consequence ahead. We should not take offence and we should not cause offence.

Prayer/Action

* Pray against the spirit of offences.

* Pray that the love of God will guide you at all costs and at all times.

* Ask God for a fresh spirit of love to stay above offences.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: On this twelfth day of the twelfth month; I dispatch monitoring angels of the throne of heaven to supervise the rest days of this year for defence and victory, in the wonderful name of Jesus.

15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The story in the text is about two men; a poor and a rich man. The poor man had a name that Heaven recognised; the Bible records that his name was Lazarus. The name of the rich man, on the other hand, was not recognised in Heaven; he was merely referred to as 'the rich man'. In the world today, to be called 'the rich man' seems to be a very good name. But, no matter how nice a name sounds, if the name is not recognised in Heaven, it is not yet a good name. The Bible says, a good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death than the day of one's birth: Ecclesiastes 7:1. We should pursue a good name. Really, the best name that a man can have is a name that is written in the Book of Life. It is good to do things that give you a good name on earth but beyond that, the best you can do for your name is to get it into the Book of life. The issue of your name being in the Book of life becomes more and more crucial even as the day of a man’s death approaches with every passing second. Lazarus had a good name written in Heaven while the rich man's name was unknown in Heaven. For the two men in the story, it was death that eventually revealed the true value of their names. Similarly, for every man, it is death that will reveal whether you have a good name or not.

The two men in this story died; just as everyone reading this will, if Jesus tarries. The rich man died and he was buried with fanfare with which a rich man's burial is always associated. Lazarus died and the Bible doesn't say how he was buried or not buried. But the Bible tells us that Lazarus woke up in Abraham's bosom while the rich man found himself in hell. We must never forget that, ...it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment: Hebrews 9:27 (NKJV).

There is life after death; and all that makes the difference is where your name is written. It doesn't matter the name you bear here on earth as much as where your name is written in Heaven. If a man's name is 'governor' or 'president' here on earth and the name is written in the Government House but it is not written in the Book of life, the man is in a very precarious situation. The timeless questions that you have to answer are: “Is your name known in Heaven? Is it written in the book of life?” Accept Jesus into your life today, confess your sins and receive forgiveness through His Blood. Then ask Him to write your name in the Book of Life. As you do this, your eternity is secure in Jesus.

Prayer/Action

* Pray that you will have a name before God.

* Pray for forgiveness if you have been making name only here on earth and not for eternity.

* Ask the Holy Spirit to lead, guard and teach you how to make a name in eternity.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: Any evil altar that dares to mention my name and family this month must catch instant fire, in the mighty name of Jesus.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Luke 2:36-38 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

MORE LESSON: Matthew 6:1-4 1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

It is common for workers in the vineyard of God to desire to be in positions where they can be visible to all. But the Lord actually esteems those who can humbly labour in the secret place where no one sees them. Such people obtain great rewards from God who sees in the secret and rewards in the open (Matthew 6: 1 – 4). In the Bible, Anna was an old woman who had been a widow for 84 years. Instead of complaining, she stayed in the temple day and night for all the years fasting and praying to God to send the Deliverer of Israel. Her silent labours were part of what ushered in Jesus Christ (Luke 2: 36 – 38).

Dr. Yongi Cho, the pastor of one of the largest congregations in the whole world, shared a testimony about his church in South Korea. He noticed that each time he conducted a miracle meeting, miracles would happen on a particular row, another time it would be another particular row. The rows are very long as it is a massive church but whichever row the miracle was taking place, nothing would happen on the other rows in a particular service. So he was curious and wanted to know why it was so. He asked God what the matter was and God led him to go to the church as early as 5am one morning. He saw a sister that came around and was cleaning the chairs in a particular row and praying in tongues over them. She prayed and cried till tears flowed on the seats and after she was done she left. That particular day, when the meeting started, miracles took place on the row that the woman cleaned. He then realised that it was the silent labour of that woman that was responsible for opening the Heaven for the people on that row.

Another great servant of God in Nigeria also shared the testimony of a young lady in the choir. He noticed that each time she led a song, the spiritual atmosphere became so charged with God’s presence that he could hardly preach. In fact, the people would have been praying before he came up. One day before service he was praying round the church and saw someone crying and praying at a corner in the church. He went and tapped her and discovered that it was the lady. He asked her if everything was okay and she said it was. After trying to get her talk and the lady insisted that she was fine, he left. It was later in the service that the girl climbed up to sing that he realised what happened; Heaven opened as she sang.

Whether your service is in the secret or in the open, you can be a silent labourer. The success of your ministry is dependent on the quantity of your labour in the secret place.

Prayer/Action

* Ask for grace to labour effectively in the secret place.

* Pray that your labour will not be wasted and that in due time, you shall be rewarded.

* Pray for every labourer that they will be the first partakers of the blessings and that they will not lose their rewards.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: He that sows an evil seed against me this month shall harvest it a hundred fold, in the victorious name of Jesus.

Beloved, the exemplary leadership skill of Samuel when the Israelites asked for a king is striking. Although God and Samuel were greatly displeased with the request of Israel for a king, Samuel the leader restrained his anger and continued to plead before God for the people. In asking for a king, the people had rejected Samuel's children (who should take over from him) because of their sinful lives, and by implication, Samuel. They said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations: 1 Samuel 8:5. Yet Samuel said, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you…: 1 Samuel 12:23. That is exemplary leadership.

When the followership misbehave or are ignorant, leadership should continue to do what Samuel did: (1) He continued to pray for them. (2) He vowed to continue to teach them the good and the right way. This takes a lot of grace and maturity but with prayers for our leaders, God will help everyone occupying any leadership position, beginning from the home to the church and the society, to follow this example. Today's leaders at all levels must learn never to give up on their followers, just like Samuel. Jesus our perfect example did the same. After all He did to build the disciples, as soon as He died, Peter led six of them back to the river side from where Jesus had taken them, thus going back to their old vomit (John 21:3). But thank God for Jesus' love; as soon as He resurrected, He went to the river side to bring them back. When He found them, He still called them children, not bastards or backsliders.

As leaders, seek the lost even when they take wrong positions. Followers also should not make the work of their leaders difficult and must endeavour to understand the pressure that leaders go through.

One thing that breaks my heart each time I read the story of Samuel is his sons. Samuel's unparallel leadership quality over Israel was not reflected in his home. Even when the people told him to his face that his children were not like him, there was no report of his reaction to it.

The worst of it is that Samuel was a replacement of Elis’ sons, it was Samuel that God used to prophesy against Eli about his sons’ ungodly acts now he saw himself in the same trouble. All leaders should know that their home matters. Leadership should begin at home, even if you are not a leader today, yet you should build your children to be godly, we are leaders someday.

Prayer/Action

* Ask God for the grace to be an effective leader.

* Pray for wisdom in how to go on with your day-to-day assignment as a leader.

* Pray for the heart of a shepherd to always be caring, loving and to always be a motivation to your followers.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: Fresh wind of glory, blow upon me this month and make all things new, in the powerful name of Jesus.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Matthew 5:13-16 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

MORE LESSON: Acts 4:13 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

A man’s blessing is only complete when you take out of what God has blessed you with and use it to bless someone else. The blessing on Abraham is: “I bless you, you also be a blessing to others.” A flowing river is ever fresh and new unlike the stagnate water full of dirt. To be a flowing river shows it is giving out and the more it is giving out the more it is being replenished. If you live a stagnate Christian life you are not likely to be an healthy Christian. You would have consumed more than you need and you can become a junk but if you become an agent of turnaround, you are a blessing and you are blessed. The way to get the full blessings of Abraham is not in accumulation of what we have but sharing with others.

Christianity is not just waiting for your own turnaround but also looking forward to how God will use you to affect people positively. It is getting more and more difficult to go on evangelism due to situations surrounding us but we can still make impact by practical Christian living. Let’s take Christianity to the market place by the impact we make on people’s lives; we can be shut from preaching in the public but our Christian life can preach more than what we can say. In II Kings 5:4, on the strength of the information Naaman got, he followed the little maid’s counsel and received his healing. Had the girl been living a reckless life, I am sure the general would not have followed her instructions.

Another character to consider in this story is the King of Syria who after hearing of the coming of Naaman tore his clothes. 2 King 5:7 says: As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, “Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me. The king knew the God of Israel but he could not represent Him. Meanwhile, Elisha also heard the news but rather than fret, he advertised his God appropriately. We are meant to be the advertisers of our God. You don’t need anointing to be an agent of turnaround: you can be an agent by good acts.

All the life of Jesus, He was an agent of turnaround. Jesus spent His life touching the lives of others. Acts 10:38 says: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good,…. The questions for you today are: How many lives are you affecting positively? How many people can bless God because of the impact you have made in their lives? Be the reason why tears are wiped away not the reason for someone’s sadness and tears. Advertise Jesus.

Prayer/Action

* Pray for grace to do good works.

* Ask God for grace to be faithful to this divine assignment.

* Pray for grace to represent God effectively and efficiently in all areas of life.

TODAY’S PROPHETIC PRAYER: Father, separate the act of disobedience by Jonah and the disrespectful behaviour of lot from the activities of my new month, in the mighty name of Jesus.

The Bible makes it clear that David was mighty in words and in deeds (Acts 7:22). Gideon was a mighty man of valour (Judges 6:12), and Boaz was a mighty man of wealth (Ruth 2:1). The Lord our God Himself is mighty in battle (Psalm 24:8). It is recorded that Jesus did so many mighty works when He was on earth (Mark 6:2).

Similarly, God wants to make you mighty in life; He wants to make you truly great. Genesis 26:13-14 testified of Isaac: ...Isaac sowed in that land and received in the same year a hundred-fold: and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: For he had possession of flocks and possession of herds and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him. Isaac grew great, went forward, and became mighty; that shall be your testimony, in Jesus name.

You can see from the life of Isaac that becoming mighty is a process so prepare your mind to go through the process. If you are willing and obedient, God will make you mighty in the land. The following are some hints on what it takes to be mighty.

(1) Focus: discover your purpose in life, your calling, your vision, and what your passion is. Develop yourself along that line, focusing on and following the leading of the Lord step by step and you will soon be reckoned with among the great.

(2) Training: our text today shows that David was taught, trained and nurtured by God. Get into real training for your life assignment and needs. Invest the needed time, money, and patience. Train to become mighty.

(3) Preparation: Jotham became mighty because he prepared his way before the Lord His God (II Chronicles 27:6). It is said that proper preparation prevents poor performance. Whatever you want to do or to be, take your time to diligently prepare, and you will surely finish right on top.

(4) Practice: becoming mighty certainly starts with thinking but it does not end there. You must put legs to your thoughts; act on your vision. Practise what you have learnt and put into effect what you trained for. Execute the plan you have prepared, and you will make it great.

(5) Consistency: it is moving steadily towards your goal. Doing what you have to do when you feel like it and when you don't. There is power in consistency; it makes the difference between the great and the mediocre. Put all these into practice and God will give you the desires of your heart.

Prayer/Action

* Give thanks to God because He wants you to be mighty.

* Ask that the spirit of wisdom and diligence will move you to become mighty indeed.

* Ask the Lord to send destiny helpers to you.
