Humility

Text: Eph.4:1-3
More Lessons: Jam. 4:10

The Christian life is a walk; we progress a step at a time. Walking requires life, strength, freedom and balance, and a day by day progress towards a God-given goal. We should live as people who have been set apart by God and not do anything that would discredit the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul admonishes and pleads with us on how we should walk as Christians: With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; v2.

This describes the quality of being humble and the absence of pride or self-assertion. Humility makes unity possible and visible and today’s text brings out clearly some evidences of genuine humility.

Before a man can say he is humble, he must possess the listed characteristics. Lowliness: anyone who is lowly in mind will not think of himself alone but will see other people as more important. As it was reported of Jesus in Phil.2:1-11, Paul also served the Lord with all humility (Acts 20:19). This should be the attitude manifested by anyone who is humble. Gentleness is another word for meekness. Meekness is not weakness; it is power under control. The meek person does not deliberately hurt others, even though he has the power to do so. Those who are meek keep their power under control. Num 12:3 tells us, Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth. In Matt.5:5,

Jesus said, Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Longsuffering: being able to suffer long: in other words, ability to bear with people. The ability to bear with one another is also important for Christian unity. When we bear with others in love, it builds and gradually changes them. We need to put on the cloak of humility because God resist the proud and gives grace to the humble person. Someone has said that humility does not consist merely in a person's thinking of himself in low terms but rather it is not thinking of himself at all. The Lord Jesus perfectly exemplified this attitude. He never considered His own desires. He only did the Father's will. He did not go to the cross because of Himself, but because of sinners. He was beaten for our transgressions, He went to hell to set us free because we were bound to life imprisonment there. He was born so that you and I can be saved from sin and He is sitting at the right hand of the Father today, interceding for you and I. Can you work for others? Can you suffer because of your neighbour?

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that God will clothe you with the garment of meekness and selflessness.
* Sacrifice something very precious to you today by giving somebody who may need it as much as you do.

God at Work

Text: Psa. 44:1-9
More Lessons: John 14:1-3

One way you can know a man very well is by the nature of his work. In Deut 32:2-3, Moses the servant of God ascribed greatness to God because of the nature of His work; His work is perfect. God does not just do things but works perfect works. The word ‘perfect’ in this regard means His work is complete in all respect, completely correct, accurate, exact, without reservation or qualification, pure and absolute. Because Prophet Moses knew the quality of God's work, he decided to sing a song to glorify Him. Each time God works, He does not do anything less than can be described as perfect. But before He can go to work on your behalf, He wants to know that you trust Him and you are able to stress your belief in Him. Moses did just that through his song as we see in today’s text. Through thee will we push down our enemies...: Psa. 44:5. He told God they wanted to get victory through Him. Beloved, through God you can triumph over your enemy, and even get God to start a complete new thing in your life (Joel 2:21).

Boasting in God and praising Him also makes Him to go to work on your behalf. In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah: verse 8.And as you know, when God is at work His Spirit, and His name will be present there (Gen.1:1-2).

Dearly beloved, you can provoke God to go to work in your life. May the Lord Almighty work His work in your life today and now, in Jesus’ Name. Getting God’s attention is not difficult at all, in as much as you are in the fold. All you need more than any other thing is to praise Him every day.

Give the testimonies of what God has done before and project your faith for more and you will know that God is never tired of doing works. As it is written concerning Jesus, How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him: Acts 10:38. Jesus is anointed for good works because of what we may need today and tomorrow.

Prayer/ Action
* I receive the attribute of always doing good works; I will not be hired by the devil, in Jesus’ name.
* I invite the Almighty God into my life today to complete every uncompleted project, in Jesus’ name.
* Today, look for somebody to bless in your own way.

Glorious Liberty: the Spirit of Liberty

Text: I Cor.9:19-23
More Lessons: James 1:25

A Christ-like life is not a life of do's and don'ts but a life of absolute freedom. Freedom of mankind is one of the reasons why Jesus went to the cross. He died to set at liberty all those that are bound by darkness and hell (Lk. 1:71-74). The Blood of Jesus is the legal tender for our freedom. The shed Blood of Christ has delivered every believer in Jesus from every hindrance, restraint, confinement and repression plaguing the world.

The world can offer independence and release but liberty and freedom come from Christ. Liberation is more than freedom because it includes the state of liberty into which the free person or thing is brought. The death of Jesus did not only free us from trouble, but brought us into an inheritance in God with the Lord Jesus. According to I Pet.1:4 we are bought…to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.

There is a great treasure God laid in store for us in heaven because of the freedom we have through Jesus Christ. As it is that the freedom we have in Christ Jesus delivered us from darkness, trouble, sickness and every bad thing, it also brings us into the riches of God in Christ Jesus. The believers in Christ have dividends for indentifying with the sacrifice of Jesus for all on the cross (Matt.19:27-29).Therefore, coming to Christ is not forsaking something for nothing. When you accept Christ, you gain more than you can ever lose. So, if you have not, why not accept Jesus today and enter into a glorious endless life. That is why Jesus made the call: Follow me and I will make you... Matt. 4:19.

Following Jesus is stepping into a life of abundance of every good thing and ceaseless victory. Everyone following Jesus closely knows that there are hidden treasures of darkness that God has reserved for those who have truly accepted the offer. You also need to tap into this treasure reserved for you.

A New Creation

Text: Titus.2:1-11
More Lessons: II Cor.5:17

Being born-again is more than answering an altar call and confessing Christ openly in a church service or at a crusade. Becoming a Christian means a changed life-style. When a person becomes a Christian, old habits and desires are replaced with new ones. The new creature in Christ Jesus talks differently, acts differently and sometimes even dresses differently. He now prefers the company of Christians, enjoys fellowship with other believers, whether at house caring fellowship, unit meeting, Bible Study, prayer meeting or at the Sunday pastoral service. He will do everything possible to be present at every service.

Loving God and His Word is another evidence that a man is redeemed. The Word of God must become very sweet to him/her. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!: Psa.119:103.

Readiness to give God all that is required: offering, tithes, time, and our valuables without reservation is another great evidence that the old nature of selfishness and greed has passed away. Having strong desire to commune with God in the place of prayer and songs of worship is another evidence of a regenerated life. God’s love in a man’s life cannot be hidden; everyone who loves God will flow in love towards others as he lives day by day. And if we love God and His Word with passion, we will always have the push to go out of our way to share the good news of salvation with unbelievers and encourage other believers to keep the pathway of righteousness. Waiting eagerly for the coming of Christ is also a great proof that you are saved.

Jesus is definitely coming for those who are waiting for His coming. If you are not preparing nor waiting for His coming, you can't be ready when He comes. What if it's today? Are you rapturable? Or if it is by death, will you make it?

Prayer/ Action
* Ask God to make all things in you new indeed.
* Lord, make me pure in heart, renew my spirit and make me totally yours.
* Share the testimony of your new life with someone today.

Following Jesus

Text: Matt.4:18-25
More Lessons: Gen. 12:1

Following Jesus is not an adventure we choose but a quest that comes to us; we are called to it. Jesus, during His earthy ministry called men with whom He fulfilled His mandate on earth, people like John, James, Peter and Andrew. (John 1:40-43). As He did then when He was physically on earth, He is still doing today.

However, most often, when God calls us, we are tempted to go only halfway with Him. I will follow you if you show me where you are taking me or I will go if I can still keep my boyfriend, my sinful lifestyle and if the pay will be reasonable enough. The call of God to man for fellowship is always complete, total and never an easy thing, but it is always for a life of fulfillment…I will make you fishers of men: Matt 4:19. The call of God on your life is to make you what you are designed to be, which sometimes you may or may not know.

Moreover, following Jesus entails certain virtues and sacrifices as enumerated by the scriptures.
1. Self-denial, (Matt 16:24): the call of God upon your life is a call unto sacrifice and discipline. The title “disciple” came from the word discipline; disciples are disciplined people, who are able to follow in all situations.
2. Your possessions (Luke 18:22): Jesus said … sell all…that is to say, its ownership. Brethren, everything you posses is for the purpose of your call, when you let it go for God’s work on earth, you will meet it in heaven. Your possessions can stand in the way of your call if care is not taken. Following the Lord involves avoiding distractions.
3. Things that ma k e for peace (Rom.14:19): being an agent of peace, as a believer means following the Lord, bridging the gap between God and man, and the gap between man and man. In following the Lord, you must follow peace with all men (Heb.12:14).
4. Righteousness and godliness, (I Tim.6:11): any man who is following Jesus must also follow virtues like righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. The choice to follow Jesus is a choice to follow certain things and a choice to also run away from others. Jesus said that whoever follows Him must be ready to forsake “all” to be able to do so. A type of Christianity that allows everything, not being selective and discerning, is not true Christianity. We must do all things to be able to follow completely.

Prayer/ Action
* Lord Jesus, help me to follow You correctly and to the end, in Jesus’ name.
* I break off every tendency for diversion and distraction over my life.
* I receive the power to be focused, in Jesus’ name.

Life Tool

Text: Eph. 6:13
More Lessons: John 16:7-13

Our God is a God of order. He made provisions for His children to live above the limitations of this life. As a tool chest that is full of tools, so is the believer in Christ given all kinds of godliness spiritual tools and blessings necessary for life and godliness. We are not defenseless. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Chris: Eph. 1:3.

An apt understanding of these tools and their specific functions and applications will enable the believer walk in the fullness of power and dominion. Examples are: the name of Jesus (Phil. 2:10) the blood of Jesus (Heb. 10:19) etc. But all our interest this time is on the Word of God (Eph. 6:17). The power of the Word of God is matchless. It's an incredible tool in the believer's walk of victory. Even God honours His Word above his name; …for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name: Psa. 32:2. So the next time you read the Word of God, do it with the consciousness that you are in contact with the most powerful and eternal tool straight from the heart of God. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away: Luk. 21:33. One of the reasons why we sometimes find it difficult to believe that God will do what he says in His Word is because we ourselves fail to do what we say we will do. So our inadequacy in integrity makes it sub-consciously difficult for us to accept and believe in the integrity of God's Word. But … for he is not a man, that he should repent: I Sam. 15:29.

Considering the account of the temptation of Jesus Christ by the devil, you will realize that the enemy is so desperate and daring, that he even thinks he can overcome the Son of God. This means that nobody is exempted from the tempter's striking range. But praise God, Jesus knew just what tool to use against Satan's temptations; He spoke the Word. The arsenal that really sends the enemy back and quenches all his fiery darts in our hearts and minds is not our years of experience or constant pleading of the Blood of Jesus alone, but speaking theWord of God against him. Remember that at this time Jesus was even carrying in veins the spotless blood that saved us all, yet He didn't plead the Blood; He spoke the Word against the adversary. Daily victory over demonic suggestions and temptations is depends on how much of God's Word fills our hearts and proceeds from our lips. Stop that devil today; confess the Word of God!

Prayer/ Action
* Command the matchless power in the Word of God to flow over you right now.
* Ask God to Honour His Word in your life and destiny and against every reproach in your life.
* Pray that the Word of God will not fail in your matter.
* Proclaim that you will begin to win by the Word everywhere, everytime.

God’s Nature

Text: II Pe.t 1:4 More Lessons: 1Jn 2:12-20

We cannot get enough of the Word of God which brings God to us. The environment of heaven finds expression in the Word of God. The more of the Kingdom of Heaven we want to experience, the more of the Word we must deliberately digest. Growing in the Word of God requires discipline and a lot of effort at first, but as we make a habit of reading and meditating on the Word, we soon begin to build our lives around it with ease. Every time we receive the Word, we receive God. All of that is simply to say that the reason God gave us His Word is to make us like Him.

Beyond the breakthroughs and miracles that we receive as we walk in God's Word, the ultimate invitation of God for us is to become like Him. This is the very heart -beat of the Father. God is building Himself into us by the instrumentality of His Word; He wants to totally transform us. This is the ultimate assignment of God's Word in us; to upgrade our present reality into God's realm of dominion. God is constantly changing our lives into His image.

Through every victory, deliverance and healing, God is calling us to become channels of deliverance, healing and victory to the world around us. The life of God must be seen in and through our daily lives, for this is the ultimate work of the Word in us. The Living Book is given to make us living books and epistles to our generation.

We are called Christians because our biggest responsibility is to be like Christ, walking in the divine nature of Christ; a life that absolutely portrays heaven on earth. Jesus walked the earth many years and never felt sick, rather, he healed the sick. This is because no virus or disease can thrive in the divine nature of Christ, none, not one! The divine nature is an absolutely supernatural life that natural people cannot resist. And this is one of the greatest tools for evangelism. God is calling us out of this present noise into maturity of soul and spirit. It is God's desire that our every word and deed beams the Gospel to that person who might never get to read a Bible. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,...: Col. 3:17. Let us live in the consciousness that we are the living epistles of the Gospel of Christ today. For it is only through contact with the Word that we can impact our world.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that God’s Word will become a part of your life.
* Pray that God’s Word will become your nature and your nature His Word.
* Pray that your life will manifest God’s Word in all areas of life.
* Say no to every anti-God’s Word character.
* Ask God to beautify your life with the power of His Word.

Power Capsule

Text: Heb 4:12
More Lessons: IISam 22:14-22.

Those who believe and receive the Word of God will experience an endless supply of the power of God every single day of their lives. Today's world is too wicked not to have power. There are too many devils out there ready to trample our lives underfoot. But if we tap into God's power, we can live above and subdue these devices of the devil. It is God's desire that we live in dominion and power perpetually but His power cannot manifest in our lives more than we take hold of His word and insist on our dominion mandate in Christ.

The third operation of the Word of God in us is that it comes to sharpen us up and it is sharper than any two-edged sword, releasing matchless penetrating power into our lives. It corrects and fine tunes rough edges in our lives. It is the desire of the enemy, Satan, that old serpent and accuser of the brethren to leave our lives rough and not good enough for God's use; this is why God sends us sharp capsules in His Word. As we live and confess the Word of God, we discover that our capacity to resolve hard riddles and bring sharp solutions to the world's situation becomes everyday reality. The human tendency to be confused and blunt is taken away, leaving us sharp and able to sharpen things around us. Every bluntness in our lives, every rough edge is polished by the Word of God. We come out brighter and more elegant as we live by God's Word. The sharp capsules in the Word of God is also sharp enough to reaching into the deepest parts of our souls and spirits, bringing healing and restoration to deep wounds, hurts and even physical diseases, …piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow…: Heb. 4:12b. No matter is too hidden or deep for the Word of God to penetrate and transform.

Absolutely nothing is out of reach for the laser of God's Word. In Matt. 8:8 we see a man who knew the power of God's sharp capsule …The centurion answered and said… but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. Do not fight that battle with the sword of your connection or influence, but by the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God, for it is sharp enough to bring down any stronghold or foe. When we on the word, we become lords of our circumstances. By the Word of God, we reign; we rule and live victoriously in Christ. Every man or woman of God is a man or woman of the Word of God.

Receive the threefold power of the word today, Take God at his Word.

Prayer/ Action
* Ask that the power of God’s Word will not cease but continue to flow I your life.
* Pray that the power in God’s Word will liberate your destiny from every work of darkness and sin.
* Pray that by the power of God’s Word, you will reign, rule and be victorious in life.

Power Packed

Text: Heb 4:12
More Lessons: Acts 19:11-20

The writer of Hebrews has given us fresh revelation on the mystery and efficacy of the Word of God at work in us. In today’s passage, three major things are evident about the power of the Word of God. Firstly, it is quick, which means that when you receive the Word of God, it quickens you. The reason why the Word of God is given to us as a 'quick' capsule is because the enemy wants to poison us until he can slow our lives down completely. Satan and his cohorts are out to stop every good thing that God is doing in and through our lives. They start out by slowing down our faith in God for that miracle and breakthrough, slowing down our zeal for the things of God and our desire to be in the assembly of the saints of God, slowing down our ability to tarry with God in prayer and deep communion. And as soon as communion with God is withdrawn, we lose direction and divine guidance, and then the spirit of fear sets in, followed by all manners of sin and lawlessness. But the Living Book declares in II Cor. 2:11, Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Then comes the ministry of the word in us; it quickens, revives, awakens and activates us unto the things of God. This is why we must continue to live by the Living Book, which provides quick capsules that insulate us from the poison of the enemy that can slow us down completely, and make us inactive and unresponsive to the things of God.

The next major assignment of the Word of God in us is to release immense power. Indeed, the Word of the Lord is powerful enough to save us from anything and everything that stands in our way. This is so, because the enemy’s device is not only to slow us down but also to leave us disarmed and weak. If you have ever noticed any area in your life that is weak and maybe a part of your body that is sickly, apply the power capsule in the Word of God and see the anointing of God's Spirit restore and re-invigorate you with the fullness of life. I dare to say that a wordless life is a powerless life. As you stand firm on the Word of God today, every slow and blunt area of your life is being quickened and empowered right now by the living Word of God, in Jesus’ mighty name.

Thank God for the Living Book. Thank Him for the Word of God.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that God’s Word will quicken, revive and awaken you to who God is.
* Ask that the power of God’s Word will strengthen you in all areas of life.
* Release the power in the Word to re-invigorate your destiny in God.

All about Jesus

Text: John 5:39
More Lessons: Jn. 1:1-4

In our above text, we see Jesus in strong dialogue with the Pharisees and teachers of the law, where He makes it emphatically clear that the study of the scriptures without Christ as the focus is a study in futility. These Pharisees, doctors and teachers of the law were a sect of devotees of the Law of Moses. They memorized the Torah (Genesis to Deuteronomy) by heart; they had portions written on their long and flowing garments, door posts, and even their ceilings and rooftops. But they did not seem to fathom what Jesus was talking about when He said…they which testify of me.

In fact, they considered it a blasphemy against the Holy Scripture for a young man to get up on afternoon at the synagogue arena and declare that all of the words they inherited from their fathers and fore fathers sum up to him. They could not see that the Law of Moses is only a pointer to the grace of God which is revealed in the person of Jesus Christ. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ: John 1:17. The reason God gave us the law was to reveal to us the total depravity of man, and his need for a Saviour, a comforter, a healer and a grace giver.

As soon as it was established that man cannot fulfill God's law on his own accord or obey the scriptures unassisted, even with the blood of bulls and rams, then Jesus showed up on the scene to give us the power to walk in obedience. That act of Love is called grace. But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son…: Gal. 4:4. Grace is the expression of Love but it is only available to those who will find Jesus in the law or the scriptures as they read it. The entire Law of Moses was a reflection of the coming of Jesus Christ who brought grace and truth. The furniture in the tabernacle to the ceremonial feasts observed by the Jewish people, all speak in shadows and typology of the Messiah. Now, it is too late to be a Pharisee because all of the law is fulfilled in Christ. Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill: Matt. 5:17.When Jesus said the scriptures testify of Him, He was really saying that the Bible you read is actually a revelation of Him. Find Jesus in every page and you'll find Grace to live a holy life, live above sickness, poverty, sinful lust, and become an ever flowing stream of life to all around you.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that you will not just be a reader of the Word, but that you will find Jesus in the Word.
* Pray for divine revelation each time you read the Word.
* Pray that your spirit will not confront or argue with but conform with the Word.

Godly Heritage

Text: II Tim. 1:5
More Lessons: Pro. 4:1-8

One of the greatest legacies any father or mother can pass on to their children is the legacy of the Word of God. There is something unique about getting a hold of the Word of God early in life. After carefully studying people who God arrested mid-way in their lives and are now great men and women of God around the world, I have come to realize that one of the biggest regrets many of them have is that they wish they had met with the Word of God earlier in life. Timothy was a good example of someone who encountered God early in life. In fact, he had a rich heritage in the Word of God as his mother and grandmother were women of unfeigned faith. No wonder he became the Bishop of Crete. He didn't have to be chased by God and to suffer much like Paul because as a little child he had someone to teach, educate and impart unto him the mystery of the Word of God.

There is no limit to which our children and grand children will soar if only we will make the sacrifice of parenting them intentionally in the Word of God. Most of the juvenile issues/problems that have bedeviled our country and made it difficult to live in today emanate because many parents do not go the extra mile to transfer a heritage in the Word of God to the kids. For it is difficult for a child that has had the seed of God's Word planted on the inside to deviate from God. Our children are our future, so nurturing them in the fear and Word of God is the security for our future and homes. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it: Pro 22:6. The minds of little children are as blank sheets waiting to be filled up with concepts, ideas, habits and beliefs. The truth is that if we do not ensure that their hearts are full of God's word, then the devil will make sure that they are occupied with evil thoughts and deeds because nature abhors a vacuum.

Lois and Eunice were not training up Timothy to be a bishop, but were only training him to know and hold on to the Word of God. Little wonder when an honorable position such as Bishop of the Cretan church was vacant, he was chosen by God and men alike. I imagine Lois and Eunice as they were filled with joy to know that their labour in the word over Timothy was not in vain. If we teach our kids God's Word, we will see honour and joy as fruits in the end. Let us give our kids the best; let us teach them the Word of God.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray for parents to receive God’s help to train their children the same way they are giving them secular education.
* Pray that our children will not refuse God’s Word but will delight in it.
* Pray for the revival of parents so that they can have enough to impact their children.

The Old Lie

Text: Matt. 28: 1- 15
More Lessons: Matt 28:1-15, Psa.2:1-3

So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the S Jews until this day: Matt. 28:15.No matter how much was paid in monetary term or otherwise to raise a lie against you, the pronouncement will not stand, in the name of Jesus.

When the enemies of Jesus noticed that their plot was failing, they decided to use a lie to defend their evil. They gave money to the soldiers guarding Jesus’ grave to make them lie that the disciples came by night while they slept and stole the body away. Meanwhile, Jesus had resurrected and begun to show Himself to His disciples. What a courageous lie; that the disciples stole a dead body but the same corpse was seen walking around the streets. However, the Bible says, despite seeing the resurrected Jesus, though without effect this lie is ...commonly reported among the Jews until this day: Matt. 28:15. It has become a mockery of the enemy to tell such an open undefendable lie.

In the same way, the lies of your enemies, no matter how old and popular, will have no effect on your destiny. Know that every pronouncement of men and of life circumstances that is contrary to God's Word and promises is an open lie and cannot stand. Barrenness is a lie because it is written, There shall nothing cast their young nor be barren, in thy land: Exo.23:26a. Untimely death is also a lie because the Word says...the numbers of your days I will fulfill: Exo.23:26b; and With long life will I satisfy you…: Ps.91:16. Poverty is a lie. David said...yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken nor His seed begging bread: Psa. 37:25. Similarly, sicknesses and diseases are lies; …and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee…: Ex.23:25. Oppression is a lie: ...thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear…: Isa.54:14. Everything that is contrary to what God has said remains a lie and must end.

Only the Word of the Lord shall stand forever (Ps.33:11). No matter how old the words of the enemy are, they shall bow to the counsel of the Lord. There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord that shall stand: Prov.19:21. Therefore, child of God, stand on what God has said over your matter, disbelieve the lie of the devil. No matter how strong and real it may look, it shall not stand. Fill you heart always with what God has said. Read the Word, memorize it and confess it to your situation and it shall be well with you. Whose report will you believe today? God's Word or Satan's lies? (Isa.53:1).
Prayer/ Action
* Lift your hands and proclaim what God's Word has said concerning you.
* Tell the devil he is a liar over your matter.
* Sing a song of praise now and tell the devil your Jericho must fall.
* Say, “I receive light into my eyes, in Jesus’ name.

Another Repentance

Text: Psa. 119:11 More Lessons: Jn. 5:39-47

Aside from repenting from our sins and iniquities, there exists yet another kind of repentance that we all must undertake in our faith walk. It is repentance from sheer unbelief, which in the life of a Christian is about the most grievous of offences one can commit. This is so because we know that the Word of God cannot lie yet out of logic and personal perspectives we develop reasons to doubt the Word of God. Every believer has the Holy Spirit, and it is He who empowers us to believe God’s Word until we receive what it promises. It is one thing to have the Word of God in your head (logos) and it is another to have the Word in your heart (rhema). King David who was a man after God’s heart made this clear enough when he said of the Word of God in Psa. 119:11 that it must find its way into our hearts. For it is from our hearts that the abundance of life flows.

The Word of God is not a logical book and cannot be approached as such. It is spiritual wisdom and can only be interpreted by the spirit of the one who inspired its writings. We are not even mandated to understand everything that the Word of God delivers to us at first contact because we just might not; we are rather instructed to believe it. This is the difference; faith. We must exercise our faith in God’s Word, both individually and corporately. Faith is the prerequisite for getting the best out of God’s Word.

The litmus test of true maturity in the things of God is actually a measure of the difference between the scriptures we know in our heads and the ones we have received into our hearts and lives. Our head knowledge must be mixed with faith in our hearts so that we can get the results that the Word talks about. The word in the book cannot do us good until it becomes the Word at heart. Sin is figurative of all the works of the devil so the psalmist was saying that the Word of God in his heart is his defense from the powers of darkness.

Oh! How powerful is the Word of God in our hearts? Enough of confessing your feelings, your pains and your negative situations! Away with sense knowledge and approach to things; away with our traditions. It’s time to make heartfelt faith proclamations from the Word that is stored up in our hearts. It’s time to confess the Word of God by faith and see the power of God at work in and through you.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that you will never to doubt or deny God’s Word in your life ever.
* Pray that God should forgive you for every time you ever doubted His Word.
* Pray that God’s Word will mix with faith in your heart and produce results in your life.

Manual of Life

Text: Mark 7:13
More Lessons: Jn.5:39-47

All religions of the world have one thing in common; a special book considered to be holy and containing instructions for everyday life from a ‘divine deity’. This special book impacts the culture and even determine the entire lifestyle of its devotees, who are required to diligently study and sometimes memorize portions until the words become part and parcel of their lives.

In our text, we see that this is not the same in Christianity, which is not a religion, but the way of life. The pages of the Bible are not given to us to be flipped through as religious requirement for spiritual accreditation by an impossible-to-please deity or anything of that sort. The Bible is carefully scripted and crafted by the inspiration of Almighty God. It is the creator’s manual for effective living. In the Bible are spiritual capsules for living above the circumstances and forces of life. The Bible is God’s given manual for unending victories and success. As an anchor is to a ship, so is the Word of God to our souls. Those who hold on to the Word of God for life are the most successful people alive. And when I make reference to success in life through the Word, I am not referring to material prosperity alone. I’m talking also about a balanced and complete package, full of health, fulfillment, joy and a fire wall of defense round about.

But I have seen a terrible thing under the sun. Wicked men who hate the name of Jesus Christ have selected and adopted principles and doctrines taught in the living book and are succeeding by the same, yet those to whom the Word of God is given have lost its efficacy and power because of their traditions, their ordinary way of thinking, and their logical conclusions drawn from the circumstances around their lives or family beliefs. A good example is the principle of giving as taught by the scriptures. In fact, some time ago, ten of the richest men alive, most of who are unbelievers met one day and decided that they would spend half of their wealth on the orphans, widows and the needy because they realized one secret of wealth they all shared in common; the act of giving.

More than two-third of all the parables our Lord Jesus taught in the Synoptic Gospels were on finances and giving. We cannot afford to just read the book; we must also live by the Book!

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that your life will focus on God’s Word on living and directive.
* Pray that you will handle every circumstance of your life by the Word alone.
* Promise God that from today, you will live by His principles in everything.
* Declare that the principles of God’s Word will never fail you.

Eternal Guide

Text: Heb. 11:3
More Lessons: Jm. 1:17-25.

I once heard a preacher-man coin out an acronym for “B.I.B.L.E” and I love it. He called it, “Best Instruction Before Leaving Earth”. There are two spheres of life, time and eternity. Friends, there is no doubting the fact that there is life after here. It is called eternity or life without time. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Heb 9:27. We are eternal beings, designed by God to live forever. But the quality of our eternity will be predicated on the guidance we receive and obey here in time.

Time is rewarded in eternity so we cannot afford to spend time recklessly. We need an eternal compass, a divine pathfinder to successfully ply the roads of life in time. We need a trustworthy time-guide; we need a living book. Praise God, we have the Bible. Even Science and Archeology accept that the Bible is a truth-pack. But much more than all of this, there is only one infallible proof that the Bible is the best guide into eternity with God; its words work! The Word of God cannot and does not fail. It always works, giving life to its readers and impacting the earth with eternal life. Its words are sure; you can bank on it. Jm. 1:25 says, But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein...but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

It’s simple logic to say that a pillar, a picture, a bridge, the human body or anything at all cannot be firm in shape without a frame. And our anchor verse today from the living book reveals that …the worlds were framed by the word of God…. Heb. 11:3a. To show us that the Word of God is the very substance or force behind the reality of the world as we know it today. Thus, it is impossible to live a life that is successful, relevant, impactful and heaven bound without taking roots in the Word of God.

The audacity to poke Satan in the face and claim your victory is predicated on how much of God’s Word you have searched out, believed and acted upon. Nothing is sweeter than a life that is lived in the Word of God because for word-based people, heaven is sure! Time spent with the Living Book is not time wasted; it is time invested. It is said that the purpose of a thing is with its manufacturer. The Word of God is our manufacturer’s manual for effective and productive living. As the sun is to the earth so is the Word of God to our lives. Prepare for eternity, study the Bible.

Prayer/ Action
* Ask God to help you run your life solely on the compass of the God’s Word.
* Ask God to illuminate your mind and heart by His Word.
* Ask God to help you invest your time in the study of His Word.

The Living Book

Text: II Tim 3:16
More Lessons: Psa 19:1-10

I believe the Bible contains the true and living Word of God. The Bible was written over 1,500 years ago by 40 different generations coming from radically different backgrounds and cultures, including kings, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, poets, statesmen, scholars, etc. It was written from different places, at different times, in different languages and by different writers yet it contains an unmistakable thread of continuity. It’s incredible to realize that even human and natural science abound proofs that attest to the reliability of the Bible. Archeological research has revealed excavations and discoveries of tangible evidences to ascertain that the records in the Bible are not fiery tales but true.

Scientific research continues to unfold the wonders and mysteries of our universe which only the Bible anticipated, centuries before they were discovered. Let’s see a few of the inexhaustible tangible historical proofs that the Bible is truly God-breathed and relevant not only for spiritual things but also for daily living.

1. The earth floats in space (Job 26:7), affected only by gravity. While other sources declared that the earth sat on the back of an elephant or turtle, or was held up by Atlas, the Bible alone states what we now know to be true – “He hangs the earth on nothing.”
2. The Bible warns against eating birds of prey (Lev. 11:13-19). Scientists now recognize that those birds which eat carrion (putrefying flesh) often spread disease.
3. Circumcision on the eighth day is ideal (Gen. 17:12; Lev. 12:3; Luke 1:59). Medical science has discovered that the blood clotting chemical pro-thrombin peaks in a newborn on the eighth day. This is, therefore, the safest day to circumcise a baby.
4. Our bodies are made from the dust of the ground (Gen. 2:7; 3:19). Scientists have discovered that the human body is comprised of some 28 base and trace elements – all of which are found in the earth. History also has it that no other book in circulation has as much proof of its truth and reality in science, arts, history and archeology as the Bible does. The Bible is not a science text book; it is God’s Word yet it has proved itself even in human science. Friend, if you don’t own a bible, then you don’t own a real book. If you own one and don’t read it, reality is passing you by. If you own one but it’s dusty, then you are ignoring reality. But if you study the Word of God in faith, then welcome to Reality!

Prayer/ Action
Pray:
* Lord, help me to live by the reality of Your Word
* Let the truth of Your Word prevail over every lie of the devil around me.
* I dedicate my life to the truth of Your Word, I shall live by it all my life.

The Thief is Around II

Text: Rev. 12:7-12
More Lessons: Rev. 12:17

The ministry of the devil on earth is fully revealed by God to anyone who gives attention to reading of the Bible. Our text makes us to understand more about the devil and his origin. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him: v9. Most of the time, the way he comes to us does not actually reveal his mission. But the Bible says he is a dragon, an old serpent and a deceiver who has many evil angels that were expelled from heaven to earth, working with him.

One other reason why the enemy goes about like a roaring lion is because of your faith. Whatever the enemy does to you in life, his ultimate is to erode your faith and confidence in God. However, the Word of God says we have the shield of the spirit…building up yourself in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 20) and Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit , and watching…:Eph. 6:18. To be secure even when the devil pursues, the believer needs to put on the whole armour of God (Eph. 6:14-18). The armour includes: truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, prayer, and supplication in the Spirit.

Beloved, the list is long. Which one do you have and which one do you lack? You need to be fully equipped because Satan is an enemy that eats beyond the bone. He does not only steal and kill, he destroys.

Moreover, our text points to another occupation of the devil: he goes around looking for who to deceive and what to use to accuse the children of God before their Father, day and night. The devil is a nuisance and to be free from him use the blood of Jesus, His name and the Word. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death: v11.These weapons never fail. Our fathers overcome Satan by them and they are a reference for us also today. Over your life, the blood of Jesus will not lose its power! He that gave victory to those who went ahead of us will not deny us the same testimony of victory. I declare over you, your destiny treasures shall not be stolen, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer/ Action
Begin this prayer with the song: Great is thy faithfulness, O Lord my Father.
Then give thanks to the Lord because:
* In 2013, no craftiness of the enemy shall prosper against you.
* He will give you your meat in due season.
* Declare that your glory will not be stolen by destiny robbers.
* Declare that the plans of the enemy over your life shall not be hidden.

The Thief Is Around

Text: Jn. 10:1-11.
More Lessons: Job 2:7-9

Names are very important. The name of a man tells so much about him; his mission, land of nativity and interests. When Jesus addressed the devil as a thief, a killer and a destroyer, He was exposing Satan's duty. Since the report of Jesus is true, Satan's mission and activities are revealed by his names. The devil does not go where there is nothing good. So when you see the devil being persistent about a matter, it means there is something of great value there. Each time you see the enemy coming to you, it is because there is something precious and peculiar about you that he wants to steal, kill or destroy.

From today’s text, Jesus plainly spelt out what the enemy wants to steal from the believer's life…I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly: v10. We can infer from Jesus' declaration here that the life of God in you is actually the devil's target. What the devil is running after to destroy is the thing Jesus came to give abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep: v11.

Beloved, you have the life of God that cannot be stolen, therefore, shun every suggestion of the devil to deprive you of your life.

Moreover, one of the greatest reasons the devil will want to destroy a man's life is his glorious future. Don't pally with the devil because his end has been determined already and you have what he can never have. The story of baby Jesus makes us know that Satan is always jittery when he sees a person with a great destiny. You have a great future; do not expose your life to the destroyer.

The knowledge of who the devil is, is very vital in being able to deny him access to our treasures. That was why Jesus exposed who he (Satan) is to us. Apostle Paul corroborated this truth when he wrote, Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices: II Cor. 2:11.

Our victory over the thief is to increase knowledge of what the devil can do and what God has provided for us and in us to overcome Satan's devices. Some of these include: more knowledge of God's word and promises, more strength in the place of prayer, more acquisition of the weapons of our warfare and the armour of God (II Cor. 10:4-6).

Prayer/ Action
* Prophesy that the glory of the Lord will not cease upon your life.
* Declare that today you will sing and not weep.
* Uproot the forces of sorrow out of your life, family and destiny.

Tossed To And Fro

Text: Eph. 4:14-16.
More Lessons: Jm. 1:5-8

The Church of Jesus is filled with so many unstable believers who change church membership like they change their garments, without doctrinal base and terribly unstable in all things. They oscillate between fathers, churches and friends. Paul says they are…tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine…: Eph. 4:14. The worst of all is that many times the so-called leaders that are expected to be mature and provide leadership are the ones behaving like converts. They are known for their inability to stay focused in one place, and are given to complaints, easily persuaded out of what they believe and lack depth of the Word of God. Also, they are known for changing location, place of worship or relationship at the slightest challenge or problem, rather than seeking how best to solve the problem. Similarly, they don't have fundamental principles and they yield easily to new opinions without careful examination.

The solution to such instability is to develop a sound knowledge of God's Word. Many are tossed to and fro basically because of ignorance of the Word and divine counsel. Since end-time opinions and views on the things of God are multiplying, and the good, the bad and the ugly are increasing, those who will excel are those who will study and live by God's Word. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth: II Tim. 2:15.

So, this year, come out of your spiritual childishness by spending more time with the Word. Plan never to miss any Bible Study service this year. Give more time to feeding on the Word because that is the food of the spirit by which spiritual growth to maturity is achieved. Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: I Pet 2:1-2.

In the name of Jesus you will not become a football for Satan to toss to and fro. You will be stable and focused!

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that you will not be an unstable Christian tossed by every wind of doctrine.
* Pray that you will be an example of the matured Christian, solving problems.
* Pray that you will not be an instrument of instability but a solution.
* Ask God to grant you a focused life that cannot be distracted.
* Pray against the spirit that makes people walk astray from God’s will.

Members of Christ

Text: I Cor. 6:15-20.
More Lessons: I Cor. 3:16-17

The scripture reading today highlights five glorious things that happen to a man who turns over to Jesus and is born again.
1. The Christian becomes a member of Christ (v15a), that is, he has become a part of Jesus’ body). Such a person is taken care of. Your provision and nourishment are guaranteed, just as any part of a body receives its nourishment from the body. What a glory!
2. Your defence and protection from every work of the devil is guaranteed as no man deliberately allows himself to be hurt. In fact, the principle of reflex action is such that a defence and in some instances, an attack naturally springs up when anything that can hurt the body confronts it. Jesus cannot be aloof over anything that confronts you to hurt you. His reflex actions are too sharp and strong for any danger around and against members of His body.
3. Your body has a new designation and a new occupant. You are now the temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you (v19). You are a habitation of the Spirit of the Living God, not sickness and disease.
4. You have a worth, a precious price was paid to acquire you (v20). No man pays a heavy price for a worthless item. God could not stake so much as the blood of His Son on you if He did not consider you worthy.
5. Your body is the Lord’s whether in life or in death, therefore Satan has no claim over you. Satan contended for the body of Moses and Archangel Michael invoked the name of the Lord to rebuke him. Let it be so in your case so that at death, you will have an express passage to the Lord of your body. I welcome you to this glorious provision in Christ Jesus.

Prayer/ Action
* Ask that the reflex action of Jesus' body be activated against every attack on you, His body, now.
* Tell the devil to take his hands off you, now.
* Rededicate your entire body to God as His temple and ask Him to help you keep it holy.

Lord Open Heaven

Text: Acts 7:55-59
More Lessons: Acts 9:1-9

And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God: v56. When Heaven opens upon an individual, a contact is made to see what will carry the individual to glory in life and destiny. Prophet Ezekiel was among the captives by the river. But while other captives saw hell in the hands of their tormentors, Ezekiel saw Heaven open; he had the visions of God and a mighty ministry. Open Heaven experience is only meant for earnest seekers of God. Jer. 33:3 says, Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

No man or woman can experience open Heaven except he or she is prepared for it as one that thirsts and hungers after righteousness. The worth of a certificate is only known by the one that worked hard for it. Stephen, the first martyr of the early church, defended the cause of the Master to the point of death and saw Heaven open and the Son of God seated in glory. Our Lord Jesus experienced open Heaven at the beginning of His ministry and life on earth. …and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Matt. 3:16-17. On Mount Camel, when a choice was necessary in the land of Israel of who to serve – whether Baal of Jehovah – Heaven opened upon Elijah and responded to his sacrifice by fire (I Kg. 18:36-40). Great saints of God in contemporary times – Aimee Semple McPherson, Kathryn Kuhlman, Benson Idahosa, Kenneth Hagin, and many more succeeded in ministry because of the Open Heaven experience. May you experience open Heaven and see into the supernatural.

When heaven opened upon Jesus, Ezekiel and Stephen, the following things were evident: Ezekiel – Ezek. 1:1-3.
1. Visions of God (v1)
2. Express release of God's Word (v3)
3. The hand of the Lord comes upon man (v3)
Stephen – Acts 7:54
1. The revelation of God's glory (v54)
2. A vision of Jesus in His present position Jesus – Matt. 3:16-17
1. The release of the Holy Ghost in an unprecedented way (v16)
2. The direct voice of Heaven
3. Public attestation and approval (v17)
Beyond all these, there is nothing more that a man can desire in life. Ask God for an open heaven and your life will find fulfillment, in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray against every spirit of closed heaven.
* Ask God to open the Heaven upon your destiny.
* Ask God for open heaven experience like He gave Stephen Elijah, Ezekiel and Jesus.

The Giving Spirit

Text: Lk. 6:30-38 More Lessons: II Chro. 7:4-7

There is a mystery involved in the act of open-handedness that only a few men understand or appreciate. The average man is pleased to receive value and reluctant to part with same. This is the basic instinct of a natural man. A popular Christian author, John Maxwell, once said, “We live by what we give”. When it dawns on a man that giving is the essence of life, then there will be no struggle in releasing his gifts, abilities, natural endowment, resources and time to serve God and humanity. God is the greatest giver that made all men – givers and gatherers, the generous and the tight-fisted. It is wisdom for a man to be on the giving and generous side of life.

It is only a mark of appreciation to the great Giver who gives to multiply givers on earth. If you study the lives of natural givers all over the world, you notice that their ability to give always increases and they never lack. Remember that an unbeliever that lives by giving will always be ahead of a most holy believer that is tight-fisted in natural wealth and possessions.

Believers have the greatest opportunity to part with poverty and live fulfilled lives. We often want to be associated with the blessings of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon etc, but are we ready to pay the price they paid? These were men that emptied their lives for the Lord. He that empties himself for God will be rewarded with overflowing blessings from above.

Change your attitude positively towards tithes, offerings, pledges, vows, almsgiving and helping others and you will never regret it. You were created to give. God gave His best (Jesus) and His children should give like Him. Verse 38 of our text says, Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. That is not just a promise; it is a key to unlock wealth! If you are tired of poverty and you desire to come out as fast as you can, take the key of giving and the padlock against your wealth will give way speedily.

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty: Pro. 11:24. Now answer the question, “Who holds the key to your prosperity?”

Prayer/ Action
* Promise God nothing will be too big for you to give Him.
* Cast every spirit of tight-fistedness out of your destiny.
* Command the spirit of giving to come upon you.
* Rebuke any spirit of loss, wastage and emptiness over your finances.
* Give a special offering this week to your local assembly, shepherd or a church project with a request to God for a testimony in your finances.

True Disciples II

Text: Lk. 9:23-26.
More Lessons: Matt. 10:1-4

It is a great thing to witness the mass conversion of souls in our generation through great evangelistic campaigns, crusades, outreaches, church services and personal evangelism. Nothing can be better than registering such souls in the Kingdom of God.

To be converted from a sinner to a saint is a worthy thing. However, the divine plan of God is for disciples to be made of such converts. Only disciples can truly represent their Master because they have been touched and groomed by Him. Jesus our Lord had many converts in His earthly ministry. Remember, He was a crowd puller; He went about doing good, healing the sick and setting free all that were oppressed of the devil. Multitudes were always coming to Him because He met their spiritual and physical needs. However, each time He went to the mountain or crossed the sea to the other side, only His disciples came unto Him And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him; Matt 5:1.

Each time He came down from the mountain, converts (multitudes) followed Him. When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him Matt 8:1.

Multitudes followed Jesus for what they stood to gain while disciples were always with Him for what they could offer Him in service And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me: Luk 9:23.

The cost on disciples means that they must learn to constantly deny themselves (even of rightful pleasure), take up the cross (to suffer for the Lord, if and when necessary) and follow Him daily (no alternative whatever the case, but to focus on Him daily). Certainly, ordinary converts will not endure all these.

God wants you to move to the next level in your Christian life. Be a disciple indeed and not just a convert. Make up your mind to be a disciple today and disciple others thereafter.

Prayer / Action
* Ask God to help you pay the price of being a disciple.
* Ask God to promote all converts in JAWOM to the level of a disciple.
Take a decision today not to be an idle bench warmer in your local assembly.
Specifically decide which department or assignment you will join before your next fellowship day.

True Disciples I

Text: Jn. 1:34-42
More Lessons: Ps 119:1-2

Words are powerful. In the beginning God spoke and the world and its fullness came into being. Even among humans, the spoken words and the written letters form the basis of all civilization. Imagine the pronouncement of a blessing or a curse; the vehicle for both is the word. Words also are foundations of good or bad things. This also applies to the spiritual. Jesus said…the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life: Jn. 6:63. No other word has the potency for the fullness of life like the Word of God.

In our text today, John the Baptist spoke the word and his two disciples followed Jesus forever. The spoken word of their discipler or pastor made them enter into Christ’s school of discipleship. No wonder they stayed with Jesus unto death. True disciples cannot live without the Word of God; they follow the Word everywhere, everyday; their lives are anchored on the Word; they are constantly with the Word. The Word affects their character and manner of life; the impact is visible to all. No wonder the believers in the early church were quite different.

The Word was their daily companion: Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers... Acts 2:41-42.

Are you a minister of the Gospel and wondering why you are not very successful in making disciples for Jesus? Speak the Word like John. Are you a Christian wondering why you cannot be like the disciples of old? Stay with and live by the Word like they did and you will see the difference. Everything is hidden in the Word, so discover by the Word and recover by the Word! A true disciple lives on and dies in the Word, never distracted by anything out of the Word. Even when the apostles had crises, they insisted on staying with the Word instead of any other thing. It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables: Acts 6:2. In verse 4, they said, But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. That is the mark of a true disciple of Jesus. Does your Word level prove you as a true disciple of the cross?

Prayer/ Action
* Ask God to make you a disciple whose life is ruled by the Word.
* Command everything that has taken the place of the Word in your life to leave now.
* Take a decision to learn at least one verse of the scriptures per day and read a minimum of a chapter of the Bible per day.

Raised Altars II

Text: Exo. 30:1-9 More Lessons: Num. 16:44-48

As altars are raised for cursing, so also are altars or high places raised for blessing. Examples of the two are Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim in Deut. 11:29, 27:12-13. When God wanted a sanctuary- a place for fellowship and blessing of His people in Exo. 25, He included an altar in the pattern for building the Sanctuary. God gave the altar's specifications and what should be done on it, teaching us some lessons about raising altars to God. First, He said it was a place of meeting with Him regularly (Exo. 30:6). The more the altars you raise to God, the more of His blessings you will experience. There are many types: personal altar (quiet time), marriage/marital altar (by married people) and family altar.

Secondly, the altar is a place of regular burning of incense to God (Exo. 30:1, . The incense God wants to continuously receive on your altar is prayer (all kinds: worship, thanksgiving, petition, supplication and intercession).

Thirdly, it is a place of using blood to atone for the sins of the people. God no longer requires the blood of bulls or rams on altars raised to Him. A better way has been given once and for all (Heb 9:11-14) through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary. By faith when you come to God, applying the Blood of Jesus on your life for forgiveness and remission of sins, your prayers are acceptable, bringing down the blessings of God upon your life, destiny and family. Benefits of altars raised to Jehovah are many as evident in the children of Israel when they obeyed God's instructions in building an altar for Him (Exo. 40:27-28, 34-38). God's glory descends and protects, defends, preserves, favours and takes you into fulfillment in life and destiny.

The exciting thing is that the prerogative of raising altars is not in the hand of the enemy alone, the believer also can raise altars. When the enemies raise altars to curse, we too can raise altars to reverse the curse and to pronounce a blessing. Also, we have an altar that is greater than the enemy's. It is the one raised by Jesus Himself at Calvary for which He paid the highest price ever making it the most expensive altar in the universe. This altar speaketh better things and can swallow any enemy's altar. This indeed is good news for all who know it. Prayer, fasting, prophetic declaration of God's Word are all altars that you can take a hold of to destroy any evil in your life. Raise an altar today.

Prayer/Action
* Ask God to make your life an altar of His presence.
* Ask God to turn every challenge in your life to an altar of prayer.
* Command every satanic altar against you to be swallowed up today.
* Ask God to strengthen your altar of prayer for great results.

Raised Altars

Text: Num. 22:1-6, 30-40.
More Lessons: II Kings 17:9-11

An altar is any structure made of earth or stone on which sacrifices are offered or a spirit is invoked or contacted. Altars are generally erected in conspicuous places and mostly on a raised ground or high place. There are godly altars and satanic altars. The first altar recorded in scriptures was by Noah (Gen. 8:20). Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses all raised altars and the entire Old Testament are filled with several altars raised both for God and satanic idols. The tabernacle of Moses and the temple of Solomon also had altars where Jehovah was called upon. (Exo. 30:28, II Chro. 4:1). In our reading today, Balak, scared of the testimonies of Israel, consulted the prophet, Balam to help curse the Israelites; and to do that, Balam, raised several altars.

No great destiny is fulfilled or altered without an altar raised for or against it. In the African society, it is said that before kings and presidents are enthroned or politicians occupy major positions, altars are raised ahead of them to spiritually facilitate, consolidate and confirm their posts. Many engage in ritual killing of innocent people, including harmless babies, to sacrifice on these altars for spiritual backing.

In today's reading, Balak heard about the children of Israel and what they did to their enemies. He became afraid, Now shall this company (Israel) lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field…Num 22:4.King Balak knew that his army and the best weaponry available in his time and nation could not handle the battle. He recognized that there must be a spiritual force (altar) behind the people of Israel.

Therefore, he sought a well-seasoned prophet, Balam, to raise an altar to curse the children of Israel. It is not always true, like some people believe, that if you had done no one any evil, you can't be cursed. Good men die before their time. What did Israel do to Balak and Moab that justified hiring Balam to curse them?

Some people are not happy at the joy, increase or expansion of others and merely seeing others flourishing irritates and angers them. Such wicked people will eagerly raise altars against your life, whether you are aware of it or not. But just as Jehovah helped to change the words meant to curse to blessings for Israel, so He will arise on your behalf to frustrate tokens of the wicked raised against you from any altar, in Jesus' name.

Prayer/ Action
* Send the fire of God to every evil altar raised against you, now.
* Send every curse back to sender, in Jesus’ name.

The Lamb’s Book of Life

Text: Lk. 23:39-43
More Lessons: I Jn. 1:8-9

It is common nowadays for associations to publish names of achievers in different fields. “Who is who in Africa” is one of such books and it is usually a great joy to be on the list. As a child of God, no matter your achievement here on earth, if your name is not written in the Lamb's Book of Life, you have lost everything. On the Cross of Calvary Jesus was crucified with two condemned criminals, because they were robbers. But while one rallied insults on the Lord, the other was remorseful and sought for forgiveness. He did not allow the pain of the cross or the uncomplimentary comments of the other robber to distract him from reshaping his destiny.

The world had condemned him justifiably but he knew the Saviour of mankind was available to forgive, if only he asked. He chided his colleague, then turned to Jesus with his last energy praying… Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom: v 42. He acknowledged that he was hanging on that tree with the King whose Kingdom he sought to enter.

Though on his way to hell, but because of his confession, Jesus literally pulled him back from eternal damnation to eternal bliss… Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise: v44. His last day became his best day. He had a golden last chance and he made the best of it. Put your sinful past behind you and repent NOW, then your name will also be written in the Book of Life. If an armed robber made it, your name must not be missing there; if Rahab the harlot made it, then you must make it. To make it into that book, you must be an overcomer; He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life.… Rev. 3:5.

You must overcome sin and Satan because he that sinneth is of the devil (I Jn. 3:8) and such cannot have his name in the Lamb's Book of Life. However, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness: I Jn. 1:9. There is no one therefore whose name cannot be written in the Lamb's Book except those who reject the offer of forgiveness and cleansing by the blood of Jesus. I pray that you are humble enough today, to put arguments and self righteousness aside and follow in the steps of the forgiven robber to have your name written in the most vital register that no one can ever afford to miss.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that you will not lose any great opportunity in life and eternity.
* Pray that your name will not be missing in the world's most vital register.
* Ask God to confirm to your spirit if your name is there today.
* Ask God for grace never to miss heaven.

2nd Chance

Text: Judg. 16:25-30
More Lessons: Psa. 4:1-3

Nothing can be more devastating on the battle field than being disarmed by your enemy. Because the strength of a warrior is in his weapons, the seizure of one's weapons ordinarily signifies the end of the captive. This scenario is far more tragic when a child of God faces a situation of spiritual disarmament by the enemy. Before the birth of Samson, God set him aside for an assignment… he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines: Judg. 13:5. He started well but because of his relationship with Delilah, he later fell into the hands of the Philistines. The dreaded Samson became a theatre piece brought out of prison to entertain his enemies. May we never degenerate and end this way. Thank God Samson realized what to do; he told the lad that held him… Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them: Judg. 16:26.

What pillars do you lean on in your trying times? The pillars of wrong and ungodly counsel or the pillars of encouragement that can lead you back to reconcile with God? Where you ask for the renewal of strength dictates how far you can go in your relationship with God. Leaning on the pillars for support, Samson cried unto the God of Israel, (v 28). May God remember you when you call on Him in your days of trouble. He cried on…and strengthen me. May the Lord strengthen you when you are weak. And he concluded… I pray thee, only this once.

The God of compassion answered and Samson pulled down the building and killed more enemies that day than in the twenty years that he judged Israel. Who are the Philistines that plucked out your eyes of righteousness and commitment? Ask God for one more time to regain your strength. He will answer because He is the God of the second chance who granted Samson, Peter, David, Maneseth, Jonah, etc a second chance. If He has spared your life till today, then take advantage of that and seek a restoration over any area of life, now. This same opportunity might be unavailable tomorrow. What a privilege to have such a merciful and forgiving God, ever ready to receive any returning child.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that you will never be a victim in the hand of your enemies.
* Pray that the heavens will not be closed against you in destiny come what may.
* Ask God for restoration of all things that you might have ever lost due to any form of carelessness and sin.
* Give thanks to God for the opportunity of restoration.

Winning Over the Old Serpent

Text: Exo. 1:8-11
More Lessons: 2 Cor. 2:11

Among the weapons that Satan uses to prevent men from becoming what God has destined for men are cunning devices and craftiness. In our Scripture reading today, Pharaoh adopted these methods in dealing with Israel; lest they multiply. (Exo. 1:10). It was the same weapon Satan used to overpower Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He simply made the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil appeal to their emotions. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat: Gen. 3:6.

I wish to let you know that Satan and his agents have not changed from using cunny and crafty schemes to tamper with and alter people's destinies in our generation. Make up your mind today that you will not listen to and accept those thoughts flooding your mind that you should stop being over-righteous and try other means outside Jesus to solve your problems. That is the voice of Satan. Your destiny is designed for the top and you will get there. Only ensure that you don't yield to all the ever increasing satanic seductions and temptations intended to lure you Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life: Pro. 4:23. How do you do this? By taking heed there to according to thy word: Psa. 119:9.

Finally, I Pet. 5:8-9 says, Be sober, be vigilant. Because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may destroy... v 9, whom resist steadfast in the faith. So we keep our hearts by being sober, vigilant and by resisting Satan his tricks steadfastly, never giving room to Satan in any way. I believe the power that helped Jesus to overcome Satan's tricks and crafts are available also for us today. Jesus said ...for this prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me: Jn. 14:30. In the same way, we will win over Satan's whiles and testify like our Master did.

Prayer/ Action
* Pray that you will not be ignorant of the devices and cunny acts of Satan against you.
* Declare that no weapon of the enemy will overcome you in life and destiny.
* Prophesy that Satan will remain a defeated foe in your destiny.

Purim

Text: Esth. 9:20-32
More Lessons: Heb 13:8.

Before the Hitler holocaust of European Jews during World War II, in which over 2 million Jews were completely burnt in fire, there had been an earlier attempt by a Babylonian anti-Jewish man called Haman. His plan was almost exactly like that of the German warlord, Hitler but for the different methodology. However, as usual, God undertook for the Jews and the devastation was averted. God turned the battle against the arch enemy of the Jews, Haman, who had planned the genocide.

So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai: Esth. 7:10. This done, the Jews declared a day of celebration to mark the victory over their enemy. It was tagged, “Purim”. Beyond just a day to mark victory, Purim also stands for the following:
1. Back to sender – Esth. 8:7; 9:24-25; 7:9-10,
2. Enemy's failed plan:– Esth. 5:14; 6:9-10,
3. Divine intervention: – Esth. 6:1; 8:11,
4. Mourning turned to dancing: –Esth. 8:17; 9:22,
5. Babylonians converted to Jews: – Esth. 8:17.
6. A day when captors feared captives: – Esth. 8:17; 9:2,
7. A day when the Jews had rule over those that hated them: – Esth. 9:1,
8. A day when the Jews took advantage and laid hands on those who hurt them:- Esth. 9:2,5,
9. A day when no man could withstand the Jews:- Esth. 9:2
10.A day of rest from the enemy: Esth.9:16.

This is indeed the type of day God needs to give you and the type of day God desires to give His children; a day of monumental rejoicing that continues for generations. If God did it for Israel of old, he can repeat it for all His children who are facing such similar challenges in any area of life. Is there an elimination attempt of the devil over your life? God is ready to take over your battle if you can by prayer and fasting, coupled with faith in what God can do, hand over the matter to Jehovah.

Prayer / Action
* It took Esther and all the Jews days of fasting to have a day of great victory.
* Take a fast today and ask God for the following:
- to repeat what He did in the days of Esther,
- to grant you a day of Purim over your enemies,
- to do all that is written in point 1-10 in the study. Pray all the 10 points in your hour of prayer.

Wait on the Lord

Text: Isa. 40:28-31
More Lessons: Isa. 30:18-21

One of the major problems in the world today is haste; everybody wants to “make it”, that is, succeed as a matter of urgency. Sadly, this attitude is also found even in the body of Christ. The irony, however, is that those who carefully and patiently come behind you discover the money which you might have run over.

Today, the Lord is teaching you to pause for a while. Learn to wait upon the Lord for everything. The Bible teaches us that the Lord makes things beautiful in His own time. God does not use a wristwatch to calculate time, seasons and years the same way we do.

Psalm 90:4 says, for a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday…. Are you in haste over anything? The Lord is telling you to wait upon Him. It is in your interest to wait upon the Lord because they that do so shall renew their strength (Isa. 40:31).

You burn a lot of energy running here and there but when you wait upon the Lord in prayer and fasting, in diligence and commitment, your burnt energy is renewed, replaced or refilled. For waiting on Him, He grants you the strength of an eagle (agility, might, glorious height and dominance of your environment) to fly over and above all circumstances; the speed to run, power never to be weary, and the majesty, caution, confidence, protection and guidance to walk over pain, affliction, lack, opposition and obstacles, and yet not faint. You are granted total protection when you fly (great speed), run (medium speed) and walk (slow speed) as strictly directed by the Spirit of God in response to situations and circumstances of life. Learn to wait on the Lord; it pays.

Never be desperate about anything, whatever goes round must come round. Trust in the power of God to give you yours in your season and His time. Prov. 28:20 says, a faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent!” And Isaiah the prophet says, Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” Isa. 28:16 (KJV). Another version (NIV) says, He that relies on it will never be stricken with panic and the Amplified version says, He who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed. Therefore, wait on the Lord!

Prayer/ Action
* Ask God to grant you patience in the midst of challenges.
* Pray for strength not to faint in the place of waiting.
* Find a prayer partner today and agree with him that you will not wait in vain.
